Elon Musk and Tesla have once again captured attention with another ambitious project: a humanoid robot named Optimus (also known as Tesla Bot). This robot is made to revolutionize various industries and even our daily lives.. If you haven't heard about this project yet, this post provides all the information you need.
What is Optimus?
Optimus is a versatile humanoid robot currently under development by Tesla. The initial concept was first unveiled at Tesla's AI Day event in August 2021. The primary goal of Optimus is to create a robot capable of performing dangerous, repetitive, and tedious tasks in place of humans. According to Elon Musk, Optimus has the potential to become even more significant and larger than Tesla's automotive business in the future.
The robot utilizes the same advanced artificial intelligence system found in Tesla's self-driving cars, enabling it to perceive and navigate its surroundings.
Capabilities and Features
Optimus is designed to interact with the physical world, and its specifications have improved across different generations.
| Feature | Specifications (2nd Generation) |
|---|---|
| Height | 173 cm (approx. 5'8") |
| Weight | 57 kg (approx. 125 lbs) |
| Lift Capacity | Approx. 9 kg (20 lbs) |
| Battery | 2.3 kWh, sufficient for a full day's work |
| AI | Based on Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system |
| Hands | 11 degrees of freedom for delicate tasks |

Videos released by Tesla showcase Optimus's remarkable progress in performing tasks such as walking, smooth running, handling fragile objects (like eggs), and executing complex movements like squats and kung-fu. The latest generation can even sort laundry and perform simple tasks in a factory setting.
When Will It Be Available and How Much Will It Cost?
Perhaps the most important questions for many are regarding its release date and price.
- Release Timeline: Elon Musk has predicted that limited production of Optimus will begin in 2025, with the first robots being deployed within Tesla's own factories. General sales to the public could start as early as late 2025. (Which means it should be happening any day now...!) Musk has also stated that Tesla aims to produce at least 5,000 Optimus robots by the end of 2025.
- Price: While the final price is not yet confirmed, Elon Musk estimates that after reaching mass production, the robot could cost less than $30,000, potentially even around $20,000.

What Will the Future with Optimus Look Like?
Elon Musk has a grand vision for Optimus. He believes these robots will not only transform factory production lines but could also be employed as personal assistants in homes. Tasks such as cooking, gardening, and elderly care are among the future responsibilities envisioned for Optimus.
Of course, challenges remain on this path. Some critics remain skeptical about the proposed timeline and the robot's real-world capabilities in unpredictable environments. However, given Tesla's track record of executing large-scale projects, hopes for Optimus's future are very high.
What do you think? Are you ready for robotic assistants to enter your life?
